"If your salvation does not include living with God (right now) in beauty, truth, and goodness, it's going to be a very dry haul..."
This is a quote from philosopher Dallas Willard in chapter 4 of The Magnificent Story. It's striking, isn't it? How much of our Christian lives are a "dry haul" because we don't incorporate beauty enough? It's not that God is disappointed...let's not go there. That's not who God is. But, we're missing out, that's for sure. Did not God create a world that is, at it's heart, good (which can also be translated "beautiful")? Does not beauty draw our hearts, minds, and souls higher? And yet, we're too often in too much of a hurry to stop for beauty. And yet, through beauty, the Trinity calls out to us, drawing us more closely into fellowship with the God who is a perfect fellowship of life -- of joy, peace, and love. Isn't that where we want to be?
Stop for beauty, folks. It's too good for us to ignore.
