Multiple positions available - team works to decide schedule. Majority of funerals take place during business hours. Position is not full or part-time - hours vary.
Zion funeral coordinators work with the chosen funeral home and family members to schedule and plan services for the deceased. Basic responsibilities include sharing a template of an order of service with the family, and guiding them on selecting music and scriptures if the deceased has not already made some of those choices. The coordinator also works with Zion staff to secure a pastor, any needed musicians and sound technician, and a kitchen team lead who calls volunteers to serve the funeral luncheon, if needed. On the day of the service, the coordinator assists funeral directors in preparing the sanctuary and the Friendship Room (if needed) for the service. The coordinator answers any questions regarding the order of service and directs family members or friends who may be participating by reading scripture or sharing memories. Finally, the coordinator ensures that the meal is delivered by the chosen caterer, and helps the kitchen team lead with any questions regarding service of the meal. Total time involvement for a funeral includes about 2 hours prior to the service--meeting with the family and funeral director, and then developing an order of service. On the day of the service at Zion, the time commitment is anywhere from 3 to 6 hours, depending upon the number of anticipated attendees. If the service is held at Ward-Van Slyke, the time commitment on the day of the service is about 1 hour.
